S&M Sniper is a renowned Japanese magazine dedicated to the exploration of BDSM culture, with a focus on shibari.
Launched in September 1979 by editor-in-chief Masafumi Sudo and publisher Akira Hirata, it stood out by skipping professional rope artists—its own team directed the bondage scenes.
Over the years, S&M Sniper featured contributions from major cultural figures like photographer Nobuyoshi Araki and author Dan Oniroku.
A defining element of the magazine was its cover art by Yosuke Onishi.
Known for his hyperrealistic, erotically charged illustrations, his work not only shaped the magazine’s visual identity but also left a lasting mark on Japan’s erotic art landscape.

We focus on the first three years of S&M Sniperthe rarest and most visually striking.
