SM King (SMキング) was a Japanese magazine from August 1972 to February 1975, dedicated to exploring BDSM culture. Part of Japan’s underground adult media during the Showa era, it featured articles, illustrations, and photographs delving into sadomasochistic themes.
Few issues were banned and never made it to publication, contributing to the magazine’s mythos and rarity.
Its striking covers, primarily painted by Ran Akiyoshi (Shiro Tatsumi did the first 3 issues), added a distinctive artistic touch that set it apart.
Highly regarded for its artistic approach, SM King remains one of the finest Kinbaku publications of its era.
