Fuzoku Sōshi was a pioneering Japanese SM magazine published between 1953 and 1954. Though short-lived (17 issues), it made a lasting impact with its bold blend of stories, essays, and illustrations exploring bondage and unconventional sexualities. It featured major SM artists like Reiko Kita, Seiu Ito, Hideo Furusho, and Tamaki Kitahara — until increased scrutiny from authorities forced its closure.
A key part of Fuzoku Sōshi‘s enduring legacy lies in its unforgettable cover art — all illustrated by the brilliant Ran Akiyoshi (秋吉巌). His bold, surreal, and often unsettling illustrations became a visual signature of the magazine.
